The controversial statue of Sir John A. Macdonald in downtown Charlottetown will remain, but with some modifications. Monday evening, Charlottetown city council voted 8-1 in favour of adopting five recommendations presented by the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils, a joint forum that includes the councils of both Abegweit First Nation and Lennox Island First Nation. The assembly said it had made five suggestions to the city to amend the art installation and “tell the true story of this individual and begin to address the trauma that its presence is continuing to perpetuate,” the statement said. Those recommendations are: Add another figure, such as an Indigenous child or elder. Fill in or seal off the empty space on the bench so it can’t be used for photo opportunities. Install signage so viewers understand “the devastating role that Sir John A. Macdonald played in the Indigenous history of Canada.” If the artist engaged is not Indigenous, a Mi’kmaw artist should be hired as a consultant. Complete the work as soon as reasonably possible. Only Coun. Mike Duffy voted against the resolution Monday, referencing a survey last summer that indicated the majority of respondents wanted the statue to remain as is.
A vintage look back at a founder of the Black Lives Matter movement gives ammunition to those who liken the initials BLM to Black Liberal Marxists. The website National Pulse last week unearthed a 2010 video that showed Patrice Cullors, one of the founders of Black Lives Matter, promoting a book called “The Seven Components Of Transformative Organizing Theory” by Eric Mann. Mann was a member of the radical 1960s group The Weather Underground, which was linked to bombings of government and law enforcement targets, according to the Daily Caller. “I was speaking to this young person … he grabbed a book and he said, ‘It’s like Mao’s Red Book,’” she said. The Red Book was a collection of saying by Mao Zedong, and was required reading during China’s deadly Cultural Revolution when universities were shuttered. “And I was like, man, that’s what I was thinking, and it was just really cool to hear him make that connection, and I was like how about you buy like 10 to 15 of these books and you all have like a youth organizing group where you talk about it and you really try to engage this … We need to build off of this.”
On Monday, institutions across Israel will commemorate the victims who tried to make aliyah from Ethiopia, in an effort to highlight a side of Zionist history that doesn’t often get told. Some 4000 Zionist Ethiopians never made it from their native land to Israel. They perished in Sudan enroute to Israel and a new initiative is looking to tell their stories. On Monday, Jerusalem Day, institutions across Israel will memorialize and commemorate the victims who tried to fulfill the Jewish dream in their aliyah from Ethiopia, in an effort to highlight a side of Zionist history that doesn’t often get told.
James Madison, hailed as the father of our Constitution, is probably turning over in his grave given the shredding of our God-given constitutional values and principles upon which we were founded. Madison recognized that since concentrating power leads to tyranny, dividing government power was essential for the preservation of liberty. He will never be accused of being short-sighted about the threats government would pose to the people. Madison and others set out deliberately to design a form of government that would limit abuses and withstand the test of time. America now faces that test, and the central question that has emerged is: Will we pass the test, or will we fall into the abyss of history as other nation-states have done? Along with other framers of our nation’s Constitution, Madison argued for dividing federal power among the three branches of our government — legislative, executive, and judicial. These should be studied and clearly understood by every American schoolchild from an early age, but to our nation’s and our children’s detriment, they are not.
Whoa! Joe Biden thinks that the relatively mild, wholly unarmed breach of the Capitol was the “worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War!” How historically ignorant are his speechwriters? They seem to have forgotten about the assassination of Lincoln, WWI, Pearl Harbor and WWII, the Kennedy assassination, 9/11! Did they really think that line would resonate with anyone with a modicum of historical knowledge? While the entire speech was banal, this was the most egregious spoken line. That an American president would utter such an unspeakable lie is the measure of this man. He is a fool. Surely, he knows better, but he and his handlers believe that most Americans are so dumb, so uninformed, that they will accept such a lie as true. That one line tells us everything we need to know about who Biden and the cabal running him are; they absolutely believe that the American people are not only simple-minded but virtual toddlers who will believe anything they say. The rest of his not-SOTU speech only confirmed that Joe is the puppet of some thoroughly ridiculous people.
Health Canada threw out 8,839,942 pandemic items such as masks and gloves prior to Canada’s outbreak of COVID-19, the department admitted yesterday. In a report, the agency said the items were tossed in the two years prior to the COVID outbreak. The items were thrown away to save on $900,000 on leasing for the warehouses the items they were stored in, or just 0.001 percent of the department’s $675 million budget, according to Blacklock’s Reporter. Many items were then put into a landfill, including over five million N95 masks, 2.4 million surgical masks, a million medical gloves, and 3010 surgical gowns. The information was uncovered after NDP MP Matthew Green requested the disclosure, and he believes that the Liberals’ mishandling of the crisis could potentially lead to criminal liability. “24,000 people died,” said Green. “There was absolutely a duty of this government to distribute critical life-saving personal protective equipment to front line health care workers, and that failed to happen.” Green commented that the discarded items were “not just products, these are literally people’s lives… This is a national scandal.”
